Why?

I started a beauty and miscellaneous blog on Wordpress a while ago. Well, it was more focused on natural, curly hair. You'll be glad to know that I still haven't figured anything out and every day is like having a new head of hair. Naturally kinky-curly hair is very temperamental. Anyway, my words on that are probably still floating around the internet--maybe not. I don't think I have signed into my account in over five years and I think they delete inactive accounts. Moving on, I have been sitting on an idea that focuses on libraries and archives for a few years now. I thought maybe l.a.b. could be something larger; I could invite others to speak/present and write, but after working with different groups in online publishing, I found that it is very challenging and is like herding cats, as some would say. Many– me included – are burnt out. I purchased a domain name and pay for it annually, but I haven't figured out what to do with it and it is quite expensive. I have wanted to write something, really anything outside of the writing that I've been producing over the past seven years, and it started with a post on a different platform about the singer Dawn Robinson (En Vogue and Lucy Pearl) after her announcement that she had been living in her car for the past three years. I will eventually post that here, but I first wanted to open with the perfunctory introduction post and to say that this site will probably be about many things, knowledge that I have accumulated over the years in different sectors, not only from library and archival work. I work in a library specialization, so when I do talk about libraries and archives, you will probably read more about that and some of the difficulties and joys of that work. I like to use the em-dash and I don't consider myself a stellar writer, but something in me has always wanted to write. It is a terrible time in the U.S. So, here we are.
